FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do you make celebration cakes?

Yes we do! It’s always special when previous clients engage us to provide the cake for other milestone events.

HOW MUCH NOTiCE DO YOU REQUIRE?

We only take limited weekend bookings, Friday - Sunday and bookings are made on a first come, first serve basis.

For wedding cakes, it is recommended that you get in touch as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. In particular, peak wedding periods (March-May and Sept-Nov) tend to book out 6 to 8 months in advance.

For smaller cakes, we typically require 2 weeks notice, however this is subject to availability - we reccommend getting in touch at least 2 months prior.

WHAT DO YOU USE TO FILL AND COVER CAKES?

Our cakes are filled with Swiss meringue buttercream and covered in buttercream or ganache. Some designs may require a particular finishing.

DO YOU PROVIDE FOAM TIERS?

Yes, we can provide foam tiers for cakes 3 tiers and above. Please note that foam tiers does not substantially reduce pricing - the costs associated with procuring and preparing the foam tier, in addition to the labour with finishing and designing the cake is often the same as a real cake tier.

CAN MY FLORIST DECORATE THE CAKE?

Due to food safety and insurance reasons, only the Alcakemy team is permitted to dress the cake. We are happy to work with your florist to have them supply the florals for the cake prior to the event, or to ensure consistency with floral types or colours being used.

DO YOU DELIVER?

Yes, delivery can be organised in advance and is subject to availability. Delivery pricing is based on distance from the Alcakemy kitchen and starts from $80.00.

On some occasions, we will engage the services of a freelance cake delivery specialist to deliver your celebration cake.

Delivery is highly recommended for 2 tier cakes and must be arranged for all cakes 3 tiers and above.

CAN I PICK UP MY CAKE?

Cake pick up is available from Belmore 2192 from 9-11am, with timing to be agreed upon in advance. Any pick up outside of this time, particularly in the afternoon, is subject to availability. Cakes are packaged with care to ensure minimal movement during transport, however, unless delivery is organised, we are not responsible for any damage to your cake after the cake has left the premises.

HOW DO I TRANSPORT MY CAKE?

For pick up orders, we recommend that cakes be transported on a flat surface in your vehicle (the floor or boot space) with the air conditioning on.

HOW DO I STORE MY CAKE?

Buttercream cakes should be stored in the fridge, especially prior to any transport and brought to room temperature (around 45 minutes - 1 hour) prior to serving,

Ganache covered cakes may be stored at room temperature, in a cool space, away from any direct sunlight.

Storage instructions are displayed on cake packaging.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I CHANGE OR CANCEL MY CAKE ORDER?

The deposit / retainer fee is non-refundable. Any major changes to your order, or cancellations less than two full weeks before the required delivery date may incur a fee to cover the reworking of the cake design and/or loss of work already completed on the order.

CAN YOU ACCOMMODATE DIETARY REQUIREMENTS?

All cakes are made in the same kitchen where nuts, gluten and dairy are present and we are unable to accommodate dietary requirements.
